Mid-Year Planning

This is one year when our family has not really put up some plans for the Christmas season. Typically, around middle of the year, we at least have a shortlist of what we could possibly be doing. But I guess we are ready to take a break from ‘taking a break’ this year, and perhaps save the best for something bigger. Maybe another trip on Disney vacations, or some island or beach hopping somewhere we’ve never been! Exciting, isn’t it?

Running Cold

The school athletics is still some weeks away. But our eldest daughter wanted to have some training in the weekends together with some friends. And of course, our little one would not want to be left behind. All of that translates to us leaving home gyms and opting to run in the cold. But I have to admit we (parents) did skip for the past couple of weeks and just watched our kids do all the running.

Wishy Washy

It is often frustrating when a mom like me plans a big busy day and it seems like everything falls over (translated as: it is frustrating when I plan do some laundry and all the rain falls from the sky). This week started out with some rain just when I did some planning. On the other hand, while there is not much outdoor furniture for the rains to to wash and clean, the rains did help wash out some of the poops on the ground which our bird friends leave behind. It’s a give and take then! Anyway, I already accept that it’s just about winter and we’ll probably have more of these days ahead.

Too Fast

Technology just happens too fast. We could still recall watching on black and white television but now we’re in the age of 3D! No we don’t have that technology yet… I guess it would be quite difficult to catch up with something moving so fast. We have some old VCDs around and when our little kid RD tries to play it in our DVD home theater, for some reason it won’t play. It would take us some moment to explain what a VCD is vs. a DVD. And all that discussion… with a kindergarten student!

Bondi Rescue

The courage and dedication of lifeguards as shown on the television show Bondi Rescue is always something that should be applauded. Our family does enjoy watching the show though we are not really frequent visitors to that beach. The lifeguard tools and even access to medical equipment should give confidence to anyone who would like to take a dip. But more importantly, the familiarity with what to do and not to do in the beach should give key lessons to viewers. They should take these thoughts with them when they next visit the beach!

Energy Boost

It is not yet officially winter in Australia but we have already turned on our heater for about a couple of times in the past few weeks. Of course we could not afford to use it all the time (although that would be nice!). A professional with the right bpi training would be the best to help anyone to get the right balance in occupant comfort and energy efficiency. That would make my dream of a steady cozy temperature in the house come true.

Flashback

Just the other day, I was looking at a old photo of myself, my husband and of our eldest daughter RD. We could still quite recall when just had one kid to tag around. Now we have two. But these types of photos do dig deeper and bring flashback as far as when I was still working on pregnancy vitamins schedule. It isn’t that far back yet. But these quick moments of recall are certainly things that could bring out a smile to any parent.

Smallville

Over the past few weeks, we have been doing some catch-up watching of the television series Smallville. I am not quite sure what exactly happened. But for some reason, the series stopped airing for about a couple of seasons already. As the villains are typically more than just strong abled bodies which appear to be working on the best testosterone boosters to bad stuff, action level really do get a bit high. It is not really suitable for kids. Good that our little one is not interested to look when we watch an episode or two.

Good for Play

I find it really amusing when children discovers a type of work and suddenly remarks that they want to do that type of work. The discovery often happens during play. Thanks to role playing toys such as doctors equipment, POS systems or cashier-type toys, carpenter toys and so on. My daughter once said she would like to be a cashier as she plays with her McDonalds play things. It should be interesting for now but soon we all know that things may all change. Parental support… yeah always there.

  • Welcome to Reflexes!

Reflexes are an unlearned or instinctive response to stimulus. Undeniably, some people discover new ‘reflexes’ when they become a parent. To dads and mums out there, you know what this means…

This weblog is dedicated to these people who have, or are still, discovering these REFLEXES…
